God’s ONLY plan for our SALVATION
The Lord Jesus Christ explained salvation as being born again. Nicodemus, a religious man, came to Jesus one night wanting to “see the kingdom of God.” Jesus gave him an answer saying to him: “You must be born again” (John 3:7).
Nicodemus did not really understand this answer, and he asked how it was possible for a man to experience another physical birth. Jesus explained what He meant by saying that for a man to go to heaven, he must be born again spiritually. Jesus Christ explained, “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit” (John 3:6).
Jesus was making it clear that the first birth is a flesh birth, but the second birth is a spiritual birth. God is a Spirit (John 4:24), and being born again means that the second birth is to be born of God in a spiritual birth.
To be born again (or to be saved, as the book of Romans describes salvation) is to believe that Jesus Christ paid the penalty for your sins and literally rose from the dead. You must trust completely. The Bible tells us that the penalty, or punishment of sin is death. God told Adam if he disobeyed and ate of the forbidden tree, the penalty for that sin would be death. The Bible tells us that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23).
Jesus Christ never sinned. As God in the flesh, He lived a perfect and sinless life. Jesus Christ could have stood before God the Father and rightfully claimed that He had never sinned and therefore did not deserve to die. Why then did Christ die on the cross?
When Jesus Christ died on the cross, He was paying the penalty for the sin of all mankind. Our sin and the judgment of our sin were laid on Him, and by dying on the cross, He paid the penalty that really was ours to pay. He did not deserve to die but He died for us. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8) For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
To be saved, you must put your faith (belief) in Jesus Christ as being the One who paid the penalty for your sin, you must trust completely in what He has done for you to provide salvation. But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe His name. (John 1:12). For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13). If you understand and believe these things, turn to Jesus Christ to be your Savior; accept His gift of salvation that He offers to you.
In Luke 18:13, the sinner prayed, “God be merciful to me a sinner.” If you believe these things, you can turn to Jesus Christ and accept His gift of salvation. No amount of good works or other prayers at church will save you. It is God that saves you. Just take God at His word and receive His salvation by faith. You may want to pray something like this:
God, I know that I am a sinner. I believe Jesus Christ paid the penalty for my sin by His death on the cross. I believe He rose from the dead and at this very moment wants to be my Savior. I turn to Him now and receive the gift of salvation and everlasting life. Save me.
If you have made this decision to believe in Jesus Christ to be your Savior, we’d like to know about it and help you further in your new life in Christ.
