Snakes (September 11b)
Snakes are killing machines. Nearly every part of a snake is designed to hunt and kill. When we see a design, then there must be a designer. So how does that fit with a good and merciful God? The original creation was perfect. Then, Adam sinned, and the world became different, “cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life. Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you….” (Genesis 3:17-18, NKJV). So, were there poisonous snakes before the Fall?
There are a number of possibilities:
- Fangs were there before the Fall but had a different use.
- Before the Fall, there were no fangs; after the Fall the snake was redesigned with fangs like thorns coming forth on bushes.
- Genetic information was already there but was “turned on” at the Fall.
It is difficult for our finite minds to image a perfect world; however, design demands a designer even when we see a fallen world.
Genesis 3:17
KJV: cursed is the ground for thy sake
NIV: Cursed is the ground because of you
